Many people find that pedalling standing up in the ‘dancer’ position spells ‘fatigue'. The reason for this fatigue is excess energy consumption due to the constant vertical oscillation of the rider’s centre of gravity.
With every revolution of the pedals, the rider’s body rises and falls through 17 cm, the height of the crank. By repeating this movement 60 times per minute, the rider effectively climbs 10 metres—the equivalent of three storeys.
It is hard to sustain this dancer-style pedalling for a long time.
At the heart of the dreamslide is the APS (Adaptive Pedalling System), the product of extensive research and now the subject of worldwide patents. This system was especially designed for use in the standing position. It reduces the oscillations of the user’s centre of gravity, thus avoiding the excess energy consumption caused by riding a classic pedal system in the ‘dancer’ position, as shown in the following animation :

Based on independent cranks and a coupling system with variable lever arms, the mechanism adapts to your available muscle power at every point in the circular trajectory of the pedals.
This eliminates the ‘neutral point’ problem of the classic pedalling situation.

As you can see in the animation, the pedals are moving at a much higher speed (three times faster) in the upper part of the trajectory, compared to the lower part. This results in a movement very similar to running with small strides, where one leg goes forward whilst the other one supports your weight.

The APS allows the user to pedal in a standing position with a natural movement similar to jogging, which minimises the oscillations of the centre of gravity and therefore also user fatigue.
By optimising the pedalling efficiency zone, this revolutionary pedal system provides excellent acceleration capabilities and the possibility of riding for a long time without undue muscle fatigue.
The APS allows the user to pedal in a standing position with a natural movement similar to jogging, which minimises the oscillations of the centre of gravity and therefore also user fatigue, whilst contributing three major advantages:
- Standing up, the dreamslider can put his/her full weight on the pedals and generate amazing acceleration.
- By optimising the pedalling efficiency zone, this revolutionary pedal system lets you ride for long periods at high speed without undue muscle fatigue (20 to 30 km/h at a brisk walking pace)
- Because the angle of the cranks never remains constant, the APS completely overcomes the dead centre effects of classic pedalling.
